American Dental Political Action Committee

What is ADPAC?

ADPAC is the American Dental Political Action Committee. It is the lobbying arm of the American Dental Association, located in Washington DC.

What does ADPAC do?

ADPAC lobbies Congressional members about dental legislation. Basically, when a bill comes before Congress that impacts our profession, ADPAC speaks to legislators on our behalf. ADPAC is bipartisan; this means that ADPAC does not contribute to one specific party. ADPAC only supports friends of dentistry. ADPAC receives approval from the home state before supporting a Congressional candidate or member.

What does ADPAC do for me?

Dentistry is the last independent health profession, but government regulations are becoming increasingly more stringent. If you are in the dental profession, then you are in politics, whether or not you realize it. If ADPAC does not fight for dentistry, someone else will fight against us.

For example, ADPAC encourages legislation supporting access to care and increasing student loan interest deductions. ADPAC prevents legislation that would require dentists to use expensive triplicate prescription pads, saving our practices hundreds of dollars. Right now, many hot topics are on Capitol Hill. These include DHATs and other mid-level care providers and how they increase access to care but decrease the quality of care for underserved populations. Also, amalgam is on the chopping block again, and composite has recently come under fire for containing a possible allergen.

Why should I join ADPAC?

ADPAC is "personal practice insurance." What is happening on Capitol Hill today affects our lives 20 years from now. It effects how and where we practice, who will compensate us, the materials we use, and how we practice. In the words of Dr. Jeff Parrish, President of the ADPAC Board, our political involvement is as critical as any CE we might take.

Joining ADPAC shows that you are aware of the importance ADPAC plays in the future of our profession. This is the best investment we could possibly make in ourselves and our future!

How much does it cost to join ADPAC?

A student membership in ADPAC costs only $5! Joining at the $50 Student Capitol Club level demonstrates that you realize the importance of what ADPAC does for you and your profession and that you are willing to commit at a higher level.

Your spouse may join as well! A student membership including spouse is only $7.50 and a Student Capitol Club membership including spouse is $75.

How do I join ADPAC?

You can join ADPAC during the ASDA Membership Drive, September 21-25.  Otherwise, talk to MN-ASDA Legistlative Liason, Aruna Rao.
